Summer and winter working hours of government institutions in Northern Cyprus
Government institutions of the TRNC operate on a unified schedule. Until autumn 2023, the timetable was divided into winter and summer modes.
However, as of September 18, 2023, legislative amendments were introduced, including the implementation of a unified working day lasting 39 hours per week throughout the year.
Work schedule of government institutions in winter and summer
The summer schedule started on the second Monday of May and lasted until the third Sunday of September. During the summer period, the working hours of TRNC government institutions were as follows:
- Monday: 08:00–14:30
- Tuesday: 08:00–14:30
- Wednesday: 08:00–14:30
- Thursday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–17:30
- Friday: 08:00–14:30
- Saturday: day off
- Sunday: day off
The winter schedule started on the fourth Monday of September and lasted until the second Sunday of May. During the winter period, the working hours of TRNC government institutions were as follows:
- Monday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–16:15
- Tuesday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–16:15
- Wednesday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–16:15
- Thursday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–17:30
- Friday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–16:15
- Saturday: day off
- Sunday: day off

Following the adoption of legal amendments, a unified working day of 39 hours per week was introduced on September 18 and applies year-round. The schedule is as follows:

- Tuesday: 08:00–15:30
- Wednesday: 08:00–15:30
- Thursday: 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–17:30

Does this apply to emergency services?
The schedule naturally does not apply to emergency services, police duty units, emergency departments of public hospitals, fire services, and rescuers.
Do institutions operate on holidays?
No, government institutions are also closed on official holidays, even if the holiday does not fall on a weekend.
