Vasilia / Güzelyalı Beach in Northern Cyprus
One of the few beaches in the Karşıyaka village area, Vasilia Beach is located next to the restaurant of the same name.
Vasilia / Güzelyalı Beach
Although the official Turkish name of the beach is Güzelyalı, many refer to it in the Greek manner as Vasilia. The same name is used for the beachfront restaurant: Vasilia Beach Restaurant.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent near the restaurant. The parking lot is also in this area, and the main road from Güzelyurt to Girne passes nearby, which can make the area a bit noisy.
To the left and right of the restaurant and parking lot are more wild areas without loungers or infrastructure, which may appeal to those who prefer a secluded experience—though not quite as secluded as, for example, the beaches of Karpas.
The beach is sandy, but there are pebbles and rocks in the water. However, there are no large or sharp rocks, so special coral shoes are not necessary.
How to find Vasilia Beach
The beach is located on the western edge of Karşıyaka village, far from popular spots like Alsancak. West of the beach lie the sparsely populated areas of the Kormakitis or Koruçam peninsula, where the Maronites live.
By car
Getting there by personal or rental car is fairly easy. You’ll find the location on the map below the text, and here are the parking coordinates: 35.35279145212723, 33.09046482700447. The trip from Girne takes about 30 minutes, even less from Alsancak and Lapta. From Güzelyurt, it’s a bit over half an hour through the mountains.
By public transport
Minibuses from Girne go as far as Lapta but not directly to the beach. However, you can take the Girne–Güzelyurt bus. Buses from the Güzelyurt station, operated by Cimen, go to Girne without transfers and pass through Karşıyaka. Travel time is under an hour.
