Martyrs' Remembrance Day Commemorated in Northern Cyprus on January 27-28
Northern Cyprus is observing Martyrs' Remembrance Day on January 27-28, honoring the lives of those who lost their lives in the fight against British colonial rule in 1958. Special ceremonies have been organized to remember these martyrs, with the memory of their sacrifice being preserved through solemn events. Between the evening and night prayers at the Yenisehir Martyrs' Mosque, a Mawlid (celebration of the Prophet's birth) will be recited.
The main ceremony for the 67th anniversary of the resistance to British colonialism will begin at the Martyrs' Monument in Nicosia, followed by a gathering at the Kucukkaymakli Cemetery. A Mawlid will also be recited at the Yenisehir Martyrs' Mosque between the evening and night prayers.
The event at the Nicosia Martyrs' Monument will begin at 9:00 AM with the laying of wreaths. Following a moment of silence, the national anthem will be played, and the flags will be raised. Gursel Benan, the president of the Martyrs' Families and Veterans Association, will deliver a speech.
The commemoration at Kucukkaymakli Cemetery will start at 9:30 AM, with a moment of silence, a respectful gesture, and the raising of flags, all accompanied by the national anthem.
The ceremony will conclude with a prayer by the clergy, followed by a visit to the graves of the martyrs.
