Foreign Renters at Ercan Airport Receive Traffic Rules Brochures
Foreign visitors arriving in Northern Cyprus and renting cars at Ercan Airport are now being provided with brochures that outline the traffic rules of the TRNC.
According to a statement from the managing company, T&T Airport Operation Ltd, these brochures—printed in both Turkish and English by the Nicosia Police—have been distributed to car rental companies operating in the airport’s arrivals area. Rental companies are also handing them out to their customers.
The brochure contains the following important points:
- Traffic in Northern Cyprus is driven on the left-hand side of the road.
- Speed limits must be strictly followed.
- Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks.
- At roundabouts, priority is given to vehicles approaching from the right.
- All passengers must wear seat belts.
- Mobile phones are not to be used while driving.
- Only the person listed on the rental agreement is permitted to drive the vehicle.
The aim of distributing these brochures is to reduce the number of road traffic accidents, which have notably increased in recent months. In fact, in January alone, eight people lost their lives in traffic accidents across Northern Cyprus.
