Backgammon Championship 2026 Held at Merit Royal Diamond
The Backgammon Championship 2026, organized as part of the Merit Poker Classic, took place at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel.
The competition was held from February 19 to 23 and brought together 130 players from 12 countries. Turkey had the largest representation with 49 participants. Players from Iran, Israel, Lebanon, the UAE, and other countries in the region also took part in the tournament.
105 participants registered in the main category—a significant increase compared to last year, when there were 78. During the tournament, 23 special stages with separate prizes also took place. There were 5 women among the participants.
The organizers note that compared to 2025, the tournament has grown significantly in terms of both the number of players and the prize pool. The championship, held as part of the Merit Middle East Grand Prix Invitation, strengthened its position as one of the key events on the international backgammon calendar in the region.
