Lefke avoided flooding: the municipality explained the reasons and revealed the reservoir levels

Despite heavy rains in various regions of Cyprus, no serious consequences of the bad weather were recorded in the Lefke area. The municipality’s statement notes that several factors helped keep the situation under control: the features of the terrain, a comparatively smaller amount of rainfall, and the regular work of public services in cleaning drainage systems and storm sewers.
The municipality emphasized that the areas that had been problematic in previous years — the riverbeds and the diversion channel — did not pose any risk this time. Current filling levels of local reservoirs were also announced: the Kalopanayiot dam is 50% full, Lefke — 10%, Kafizes — 30%, and the reservoir in Gemikonağı is still empty (0%).
It is reported that the bridges over the riverbeds have been cleared of debris, and in the event of possible overflow, the barrage systems should not pose a threat to nearby areas. Lefke Belediyesi states that it continues to monitor the situation and remains in a state of readiness for any weather changes.
