The number of Americans applying for UK citizenship reaches record levels
In London, Mayor Sadiq Khan reported a record increase in the number of US citizens applying for British citizenship or permanent residence in the second quarter of 2025. The information is based on data from the Home Office.
According to the Home Office, in the second quarter of 2025, applications from Americans for citizenship rose by 50% — from 1,465 to 2,194. Since the beginning of 2025, the total number of applications submitted has reached 4,125. In the 12 months up to March 2025, the number of US applications for citizenship and permanent residence reached 6,618 — the highest figure since records began.
The Mayor of London noted that one reason for the growing interest in the UK is the rule of law, respect for diversity, and protection of minority rights. According to him, these factors increase the city’s attractiveness not only as a financial and cultural center but also as a place for long-term residence.
On the eve of Donald Trump’s official visit to London, a large protest is planned, in which tens of thousands of people are expected to participate, according to the organizers. Home Office data confirms the increased migration interest of US citizens in the UK in 2025.
