TRNC Mayors Visit Bruges to Strengthen International Ties
The Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities (KTBB) is continuing its outreach efforts in Brussels, aiming to raise the international profile of local authorities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). As part of their visit, the delegation attended a European Parliament committee meeting and later made an official stop in the city of Bruges.
During the visit, the mayors from Northern Cyprus learned about Bruges’ urban transport system and its environmentally sustainable governance practices. They also took part in a reception celebrating Turkish Cuisine Week, hosted by Turkey’s Permanent Representation to the EU and Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı.
The delegation was warmly received by Bruges municipal administrator Colin Beheydt and Secretary General Frankie Demon. Slabbynck Bart, head of Bruges’ municipal mobility project, delivered a presentation on modern transportation models and sustainable local governance strategies.
The visit concluded the evening before, after which the KTBB delegation returned to Cyprus.
