Turkish Energy Experts Arrive in TRNC to Address Electricity Issues
The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia is actively working to resolve the electricity problems in Northern Cyprus. Over the weekend, a delegation of seven, led by the General Manager of the Turkish Electricity Generation Company (EUAŞ), arrived on the island. Meanwhile, the Electricity Workers’ Union (EL-SEN) is preparing to stage a protest.
Today, representatives from EUAŞ will continue their efforts at the Teknecik Power Station. They plan to bring the number 8 diesel generator online as part of these efforts.
According to Kibris Postasi, citing a source at the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, EUAŞ has provided Northern Cyprus with an additional mobile power plant with a capacity of 25 MW. This new equipment is expected to help address the electricity shortage that has occurred during peak demand due to a malfunction.
The number 8 diesel generator and the mobile power plant, which is expected to be operational in September, should meet the island's energy needs and reduce power outages to a minimum.
Additionally, at 10:00 AM today, the Electricity Workers’ Union of Cyprus and Turkey (EL-SEN) will hold a protest at the Teknecik Power Station. Union members believe the station is “incapable of generating sufficient electricity.”
EL-SEN’s statement indicates that the protest, “organized to address the situation at the power station and draw public attention,” will also involve political parties and non-governmental organizations.
