Traffic accident on the Lefkoşa—Güzelyurt highway: two hospitalized in intensive care
On the Lefkoşa—Güzelyurt road between the 15th and 16th kilometers, around 23:50 on August 29, a traffic accident occurred; as a result, two people were seriously injured and taken to intensive care. According to the police, the driver of the van with license plate EB 370, operated by Erkan Topaloğluları, attempted to overtake on the right, collided with a vehicle moving in the same direction, lost control, left the road, entered the central median strip and overturned, finally stopping on its wheels.
The driver, Erkan Topaloğluları, and the passenger, Hasan Topaloğluları, sustained severe injuries. Both were hospitalized in Lefkoşa, at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital: Erkan in the neurological intensive care unit, Hasan in the surgical intensive care unit. Police are investigating the incident.
For residents and drivers on the island, this means increased caution on highways at night and avoiding risky maneuvers when overtaking. In the near future, delays and traffic restrictions may occur in the accident area — drivers are advised to use alternative routes and follow the instructions of emergency services. Following the investigation, the police will provide information on the causes and possible legal consequences.
