Famagusta celebrates Independence Day: city center closed for festive parade
Today, Famagusta is holding celebrations dedicated to Independence Day. The festive program began on the morning of August 15 and includes various events, the main highlight of which, according to preliminary information, will be a parade.
Due to preparations for the celebration, traffic on one of the city’s main arteries — İsmet İnönü Boulevard — has been completely closed. In the area where the festivities are planned, municipal workers and police officers have been organizing the space since early morning: stages, sound equipment, and festive decorations are being set up.
Cars parked along the street are being urgently towed away. Drivers who left their vehicles in the event zone are urged to pick them up or check their location with the city’s towing service.
Due to the road closure, significant traffic congestion is possible in central Famagusta, especially on adjacent streets. Residents and visitors are advised to plan routes in advance and, if possible, avoid traveling to the city center during peak hours.
The celebrations are expected to continue until the evening, concluding with a concert and fireworks.
