The import of meat to the TRNC has been exempted from government procurement and extended until October 1st
Northern Cyprus has issued a decree exempting meat imports from the standard government procurement process.
The Council of Ministers' resolution was published yesterday in the “Official Gazette.”
According to the document, the “law on the non-application of public procurement rules concerning meat imports to be carried out by the Soil Products Institute” was created to expedite the import process of meat into the country.
The decree exempts the import of frozen lamb meat, with or without bones, as well as frozen lamb or beef mince, from the Public Procurement Law, according to criteria defined by the Council of Ministers. This exemption will be in effect until October 1.
Recently, the second batch of frozen imported meat from the Netherlands went on sale in Northern Cyprus. The product has already been inspected and deemed safe.
The Soil Products Institute (TÜK) has published a list of butcher shops where the meat can be purchased.
The first batch of meat was delivered on June 10 to 46 retail outlets. The 21-ton shipment sold out in just a few days.
