Inflation in January was 1.97%, annual rate reached 39.4%

The Statistical Service published inflation data for January. According to the Consumer Price Index, inflation in January was 1.97% compared to the previous month. The same increase was recorded compared to December of the previous year. On an annual basis, inflation reached 39.40%.

The largest monthly increase was recorded in the communication group — 11.40%. Significant price growth was also noted in the following categories:

  • Health — +9.59%
  • Miscellaneous goods and services — +6.85%
  • Recreation and culture — +6.13%
  • Housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel — +4.85%
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages — +4.45%
  • Transport — +3.08%
  • Furniture, household appliances and home services — +2.29%
  • Education — +1.65%
  • Clothing and footwear — +0.88%
  • Alcohol and tobacco products — +0.33%

At the same time, in the restaurants and hotels group, prices decreased by 16.96%.

In January, out of 504 items in the consumer basket, prices increased, while 114 items decreased.

The sharpest price increases were observed for:

  • Eggplants — +95.87%
  • Cauliflower — +91.30%
  • Arugula — +80.41%

The largest price decreases were recorded for:

  • National Lottery ticket — −50%
  • Onion — −42.44%
  • Artichoke — −42%
