Using 95-octane gasoline instead of 98: what experts say
According to Ahmet Şener, a representative of the Association of Oil Importers and Suppliers of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, using 95-octane petrol instead of 98 does not significantly affect engine performance. Şener stated that the difference in performance is so minimal it's hard to notice during normal driving.
He explained that both fuel types are produced in compliance with international quality standards, and in an engine designed for AI‑98 gasoline, using AI‑95 is safe. Power loss will be minimal and unnoticeable to the driver during everyday use.
Due to price changes and logistical factors, suggestions to switch from 98 to 95 gasoline—cheaper and more widely available—are increasingly common in Northern Cyprus. Şener added that such a substitution is acceptable and will not cause technical problems, especially if the driver does not operate the car under extreme conditions or at high speed.
Thus, experts reassure motorists: switching to AI‑95 gasoline is a safe and cost‑effective alternative that virtually does not affect the vehicle’s performance.
