Mass Events Canceled in TRNC Due to National Mourning
As a result of the national mourning declared in Turkey for the victims of the tragic fire at the Kartalkaya ski resort, various mass events in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have been canceled. This includes the film-music concert in Famagusta and the reception marking the 54th anniversary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP).
The Famagusta Municipality has postponed the "Cinema Music" concert, originally scheduled for January 22 at the Rauf Raif Denktas Cultural Center, due to the fire and national mourning.
The concert, which was to feature popular themes from classic films such as The Godfather, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Pulp Fiction, Pirates of the Caribbean, and others, will now be rescheduled for a later date.
The reception for the 54th anniversary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), planned for this evening at Bedesten, has also been postponed.
"A day of mourning has been declared in TRNC following the fatal fire at the ski resort in Turkey. As a result, we wish to inform you that today’s reception is postponed until further notice," stated the party in an announcement.
Earlier reports confirmed that the TRNC Council of Ministers had declared January 22 as a day of national mourning for the victims of the Kartalkaya tragedy, where the death toll has tragically reached 76.
Turkey also declared a day of national mourning, and TRNC authorities had previously extended their condolences over the devastating event.
