Kamu-İş and the Çatalköy–Esentepe Municipality sign a second collective agreement
The Kamu-İş trade union and the Çatalköy–Esentepe Municipality in Northern Cyprus signed their second collective labor agreement on December 15, 2025, aimed at regulating workers’ rights and guarantees for employees working in high-risk areas.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kamu-İş President Ahmet Serdaroğlu, Mayor Ceyhun Kırok, members of the union’s board and municipal employees. The parties noted that the negotiation process was completed in a spirit of dialogue and consensus.
According to Ahmet Serdaroğlu, the new agreement systematizes all rights of workers engaged in hazardous work and is drafted in a way that does not harm either the municipality or the employees. The union representative thanked Ceyhun Kırok for his constructive approach during the negotiations.
Ceyhun Kırok stated that as part of efforts to improve the municipality’s financial situation, accumulated obligations were settled, including a reserve fund debt of 21 million Turkish lira, as well as overdue insurance contributions and installments on tax liabilities. He also reported that employees hired before 2022 and classified under Barem 1 will, from January 2026, be aligned with their positions and appointed to permanent staff.
For residents and workers in Northern Cyprus, this means the safeguarding of labor rights and the regulation of social payments and guarantees for municipal employees.
