TRNC Presidential Candidates Will Need to Gather 1,500 Signatures
A new bill has been introduced in Northern Cyprus, requiring presidential candidates to collect 1,500 signatures. The proposal has been published in the Official Gazette.
The bill, titled “Amendments to the Election and Referendum Law”, was presented by Erhan Arıklı, Chairman of the Revival Party (YDP) and Minister of Public Works and Transportation. Under this bill, candidates running for the presidency of the TRNC will be required to gather 1,500 signatures.
In addition to the qualifications and application requirements outlined in the law, candidates must submit a candidate application document to the Higher Electoral Commission, which will include the names, identity card numbers, addresses, and signatures of at least 1,500 citizens, all certified by a notary.
Individuals and legal entities will have 20 days to submit written opinions and suggestions regarding the bill to the Presidium of the Assembly, as long as they are directly related to the content of the proposal.
As previously reported, preparations for the 2025 presidential elections in Northern Cyprus are already underway. The sixth president will be elected by October 12 at the latest.
