KAR-İŞ condemned the second fuel price increase this month in Northern Cyprus
On November 20, the Association of Modern Public Transport Operators of Turkish Cypriots (KAR-İŞ) stated that the second fuel price increase within a month in Northern Cyprus is causing serious damage to the sector. The statement was signed by the organization’s chairman, Fuat Topaloğlu.
In a written appeal, KAR-İŞ noted that the increase makes carriers’ operations economically unsustainable and leads to the risk of a shutdown. According to Topaloğlu, the decision is “unacceptable” and is perceived as a step “aimed at undermining the sector.”
The association warned that if the price hike is not reviewed or urgent negotiations with the sector do not begin, serious disruptions in transport services across the country are possible. KAR-İŞ announced that an extraordinary meeting will be held soon to determine further actions.
For residents, this means potential delays and cancellations of public transport services. The organization stated that some carriers are “approaching a point of ceasing operations” because of rising costs. KAR-İŞ urged the authorities to take into account the real expenses of the sector and return to dialogue.
