Kıb-Tek Apologizes to TRNC Residents
The Cyprus-Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) has issued an apology to residents of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for recent power outages.
Hüseyin Pasha, Chairman of the company's board, explained that the recent power interruptions were due to a malfunction rather than a shortage of electricity production.
Pasha indicated that the malfunction causing the outages is expected to be resolved within a week. The company’s specialists are actively working to fix the issues and enhance production capacity.
In an interview with a Turkish news agency in Cyprus, Pasha reported that both generators at the Teknicik power station and the power station in Southern Cyprus were damaged, while energy consumption remains at a peak.
"We owe the public an apology," Pasha stated.
He also noted that when a failure occurs in the Republic of Cyprus, it affects the interconnected system in Northern Cyprus as well, with reactivation requiring approximately one hour.
Measures to address the malfunction of the two generators at the Teknicik power station have already been taken. Replacement parts are being imported from abroad, with orders expected to arrive within a few days.
Currently, Kıb-Tek is unable to perform scheduled regional outages on an hourly basis as before, due to the difficulty in predicting when and where the next malfunction will occur.
