Cypriot Turkish Post marks its 62nd anniversary
Postal Department Director Yakup Iskender, in a message marking the anniversary, recalled the establishment of the Cypriot Turkish Post on January 6, 1964, and its role in public life in Northern Cyprus.
Iskender noted that the postal service was founded to meet the needs of Turkish Cypriots and to perform official functions after Turks were isolated from the institutions of Cyprus. According to him, in those years, when technical means were poorly developed, postal communication remained the main channel of information.
The Director stated that today the postal network includes 34 branches and 165 employees. The institution provides services for sending letters, envelopes and small parcels, cargo delivery, money transfer operations, and the sale of postage stamps, the sales of which reach millions of liras.
Iskender emphasized that despite the lack of broad international recognition of the TRNC, its postage stamps are sold in a number of countries and are of interest to philatelists. TRNC stamps are exhibited at events, including in Turkey.
In conclusion, he honored the memory of those who participated in the creation and development of the postal service, expressing respect and gratitude to the living employees and commemorating those who have passed away.
