KTAMS threatens an indefinite strike in the Department of Resmi Kabz Memurluğu ve Mukayyitlik Dairesi
KTAMS union leader Güven Bengihan has announced that the union will begin an indefinite strike at the Resmi Kabz Memurluğu ve Mukayyitlik Dairesi (Official Payments and Registry Department) starting Monday, if additional staff are not assigned to the department. The statement was made in an interview with the Turkish news agency TAK; the union notes that the strike at the department has already been ongoing for seven days.
According to Bengihan, in the past two days the government has received approvals to hire more than 60 temporary and contract workers, but none of them have been assigned to this department. KTAMS is demanding that “at least 2–3” temporary staff members be sent to ease the department’s workload; otherwise, the strike will become indefinite.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, this could mean delays in the processing of payments and registration procedures, longer queues, and extended document issuance times. It is recommended, where possible, to postpone planned operations, check the status of applications in advance with the relevant department, and use electronic services if available.
Further steps will depend on the actions of the authorities; the union’s statement is published based on the message given to the TAK agency by the head of KTAMS.
