A Foody food delivery courier, a Bangladeshi citizen, became the center of an unusual incident in Lefkoşa after mistakenly crossing the city’s dividing line.

According to available information, motorcyclist Hasan Kibria, while completing a delivery in the Republic of Cyprus, used Google Maps navigation and, trying to find the delivery address, drove towards the northern part of the city. It is reported that he passed through the Greek-Cypriot Metihan checkpoint but was stopped on the Turkish-Cypriot side for attempting to cross without completing the necessary procedures.

Due to a language barrier, the courier could not explain his situation and was detained.

The court ordered the man to be held in custody for 10 days on charges of illegal border crossing. It is known that Kibria arrived in Cyprus in December 2025 and was legally employed in the delivery service.

He is expected to appear before the TRNC court in the coming days. The possibility of his deportation to Bangladesh is also under consideration.

After the courier stopped communicating, Foody launched a search for him and engaged a lawyer. Only a few days later was it discovered that he was in the northern part of the island. Preliminary information indicates that the man did not know Lefkoşa was a divided city.
