Lefkoşa: immigrants from Bangladesh set an example of solidarity after the flood

In Lefkoşa, a group of immigrants from Bangladesh organized a voluntary aid initiative after the heavy rains and flooding that hit the city in recent days. The initiative arose within the community, whose members decided not to remain indifferent to the problems of the district where they themselves live and work.
The men went out into the streets and courtyards of residential neighborhoods to help clean up the aftermath of the bad weather: they cleared sidewalks and yards of mud and debris, removed damaged items, and helped residents tidy up shared spaces. Wherever possible, they also helped to clear drains and stormwater channels so that the water could recede more quickly.
Residents of nearby houses note that such an initiative was an unexpected but very touching gesture. In social media posts featuring photos and videos of the cleanup, users write that “humanity has no nationality” and thank the volunteers for their help in a difficult moment.
Representatives of the community emphasized that for them it is natural: “We live here, our children grow up here, and when the city is struggling, we must help just as we would at home.”
