A car fell into a hole on Dereboyu Street in Nicosia
A car fell into a hole on Dereboyu Street in Nicosia, and the city’s mayor, Mehmet Harmancı, has apologized for the incident.
The accident occurred around 16:30 the previous day in the parking lot of an office on Mehmet Akif Street (Dereboyu). A 47-year-old woman was driving her car when it plunged into a hole about 70 centimeters deep.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Despite this, the Mayor of the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia (LTB), Mehmet Harmancı, acknowledged the accident and apologized publicly on his social media page. He also promised to compensate the car owner for the damages.
It's worth noting that Dereboyu Street was reopened to traffic just last Monday following a large-scale sewer line reconstruction project that cost 1 million euros.
“We are investigating the incident, and of course, the responsibility is ours. We’ve been working hard on this project, which has caused significant disruptions, and now we can see the consequences of even the smallest mistake. As mayor, I take full responsibility for what happened, and I apologize to the public,” Harmancı wrote.
