The MDP in Nicosia called for ensuring the unhindered passage of residents of Northern Cyprus to Southern Cyprus.
Mehmet Erol Muvali, Secretary of the Nicosia branch of the Nationalist Democracy Party (MDP), stated that all residents of Northern Cyprus holding TRNC documents should be granted the possibility to cross into Southern Cyprus "without any obstacles." The statement was published on September 3 in local media.
Muvali also emphasized that the recognition of Northern Cyprus as a state by Southern Cyprus, and its de facto acknowledgment, are, in his opinion, necessary conditions for maintaining peace and stability on the island. According to the party representative, creating an order in which citizens have equal rights, live freely, and are recognized by their identity is a key step in resolving the Cyprus issue.
The MDP’s position is political in nature and does not yet reflect the official policy of the government. For the island’s residents, such initiatives, if implemented, would mean simplifying the crossing of the dividing line and gaining access to services and contacts in the south. The party declared that it will continue to defend the demand for recognition and respect for the will of the Turkish Cypriots on all platforms.
