Mehmet Harmancı warns of scammers calling in his name

In North Nicosia, the Mayor of Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB), Mehmet Harmancı, warned on February 20 about phone scammers posing as him.

According to Harmancı, calls are being made from certain numbers allegedly on his behalf, claiming to be about the "purchase of a yacht." Unknown individuals also called a ship captain, offering to sell a "zodiac" inflatable boat, claiming it was surplus to requirements. In this manner, they contacted a large number of people.

Harmancı reported that today the scammers contacted Tekin Birinci. Birinci obtained details from the callers, including an account number, and handed all the information over to the police.

The Mayor emphasized that neither he personally nor the municipality makes such requests and urged the public not to trust these approaches or take any action based on them.
