The mayor of Gönyeli-Alayköy announced the mobilization of resources to restore the city after heavy rainfall
On 11 December 2025, the mayor of Gönyeli-Alayköy, Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, stated that the municipality had mobilized all available resources to return the city to normal as quickly as possible after the heavy rains that affected the region in Northern Cyprus.
According to the municipality, after a significant decrease in precipitation and the cessation of water flow from streams and rivers, teams immediately went into the field and began cleaning and restoration work. Amcaoğlu noted that intensive efforts are underway to clean the streets, restore roads and repair crossings damaged by the flooding.
The mayor also reported that the damage assessment procedure has begun. Staff from the Nicosia administration are inspecting all affected areas within the limits of the Gönyeli-Alayköy municipality, with municipal crews accompanying them on-site and providing the necessary assistance to ensure accurate assessments.
Amcaoğlu thanked the municipal workers for their continuous work in the rain and emphasized that the efforts are aimed at the rapid restoration of urban infrastructure. For residents, this means that street cleaning and road restoration are being carried out as priorities, along with the official assessment of the damage.
