Meteorologists warn of record heat in the coming days
The Meteorological Service of Northern Cyprus warns of a significant increase in air temperatures starting this weekend. According to the official statement, a warm air mass will arrive on the island, causing temperatures to rise 4–7 degrees above seasonal norms. The hottest period is expected between August 9 and 12, with inland areas forecasted to reach temperatures between 41 and 44 °C.
Residents and visitors of Cyprus are advised to be extremely cautious, as abnormal heat can have negative effects on health and daily life.
According to the weekly forecast, the weather will remain mostly clear with some variable cloudiness. At the beginning of the period, low-pressure systems and hot air influxes will influence the climate, followed later by very hot and relatively humid air masses.
Maximum temperatures in the early part of the week will range from 37–40 °C inland and 32–35 °C on the coast. In the latter part of the week, it will get even hotter — up to 41–44 °C inland and 36–39 °C in coastal areas.
Moderate southern and southwesterly winds are expected, occasionally increasing in strength. Meteorologists strongly advise avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, staying hydrated, and paying special attention to the elderly and children.
