Meteorological Department: heavy rain expected on Northern Cyprus overnight into Thursday and on Friday

The Meteorological Department has published a forecast for the period from January 6 to 12. In a statement released on January 5, 2026, at 16:30, it noted that heavy rain is expected in some areas of Northern Cyprus overnight into Thursday and on Friday.

According to the department, the region will be under the influence of a high-pressure system in the first days of the period, followed by a low-pressure system bringing cold and moist air masses in the subsequent days.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, partly cloudy conditions are forecast. Overnight into Thursday and on Friday, heavy rain is possible in some areas. Over the weekend and on Monday, partly cloudy weather is expected.

Air temperatures in the first days of the period are forecast to range between 19–22 °C in both inland areas and along the coast. In the remaining days, temperatures are expected to drop to 15–18 °C.

Winds will blow from the northeast in the first days, then shift to the southwest; moderate winds are expected, occasionally strong in places. On Friday, locally storm-force winds are forecast.

For residents, this means a likelihood of precipitation and strengthening winds during the specified period, especially overnight into Thursday and on Friday.
