Ministry of Labor Concerned About Street Cleaning in Nicosia Amid Heat
The Ministry of Labor of the TRNC has taken action regarding personnel sweeping the streets in the heat in Nicosia. Employees of the cleaning company contracted by the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia (LTB) received warnings and necessary instructions.
"I have provided the necessary instructions regarding the situation with the personnel of the cleaning company contracted by the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia," stated the minister.
The Ministry of Labor’s response was prompted by a complaint from the president of the Municipal Workers' Union (BES), who reported on the employment of municipal workers despite the scorching heat in Nicosia. The union leader emphasized that municipal services should not be outsourced to the private sector, which is the union’s position.
It should be noted that due to the extreme heat in Northern Cyprus, working outdoors during daytime hours has been prohibited several times.
