Chatalkoy-Esentepe Municipality: no chlorine leaks detected at Teknecik power plant
The Chatalkoy-Esentepe Municipality stated that there is no health threat due to the alleged chlorine leak at the Teknecik power plant. This was reported by the municipality head, Ceyhun Kırok, informing the public about the progress of the work.
According to Kırok, the company began operations in the area on Friday. After consultations with municipal police teams, national police, civil defense, the Girne district administration, Kib-Tek, and firefighters, the necessary measures for safe work were initiated.
The Kib-Tek statement noted that none of the four employees showed signs of gas poisoning. The company reported that no chlorine was detected in the atmosphere; the latest measurements conducted around 15:30 did not detect any leaks.
The municipality expects the work to empty the remaining cylinders to be completed by Friday. For residents, this means that official services currently assess the situation as safe; it is recommended to follow updates from the municipality and emergency services and not to give in to rumors. If symptoms appear — severe coughing, eye irritation, or difficulty breathing — medical attention should be sought.
