Famagusta Municipality signs contract for asphalt resurfacing project

The Municipality of Famagusta has signed a contract for the implementation of the first phase of the asphalt resurfacing project, the tender process for which has been completed.

According to a statement from the Municipality, Mayor Suleyman Ulucay signed the contract at a ceremony held yesterday.

Also present at the ceremony were Tender Committee Chairman Ozkan Oza and committee members.

This is the first stage of a three-phase asphalting program. In the first phase, urgent areas will be addressed based on intense complaints received and field assessments. The work includes full asphalting in some areas, extended asphalting in others, and patching in selected spots.

According to the contract, work will begin shortly and is expected to be completed within 120 calendar days.

The mayor stated the aim is to create a more comfortable, safe, and modern transport infrastructure throughout the city.

"We are now putting an end to Famagusta’s long-standing road problems. As a municipality, we have allocated 100 million Turkish lira from our own resources. We begin the first phase of asphalting with the initial 45 million. Our goal is not only to repair roads, but to build a safer, more modern transport network. We are committed to improving the quality of life for our residents and modernizing the city," Ulucay said.

Areas where work will be carried out include:

• Canakkale district: resurfacing on Kerem, Zihni Hasip, Osman Ahmet, Mehmet Saban, Bayraktar (1050 m), Orhan H. Devrish, Ovacik, Sehit Ibrahim Hasan (in front of İMMAP), and Dize Streets;
• Extension and resurfacing on Nazan, Mimar, Tayfun, and Elvan Streets;
• 70 meters of patching on Bayraktar, Sehler, Kartus, and Ay Isigi Streets;
• Asphalting on Constitution, Mercan, Shirin Bayir, Sehit Ibrahim Hasan (Ak Un market section – between two roundabouts), and Ziya Gokalp (between inoperative lights – open market);
• Patching on Ziya Gokalp Street (between open market and Melek Secondary School);
• Uccakırlar area: 750 m full surfacing and 150 m patching on Uccakırlar Street;
• Works at Uccakırlar Secondary School area – Canbulat and Ihsan Kılıç Streets.
