Interior Ministry Investigating Ads Offering TRNC Citizenship to Women
The Interior Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has launched an investigation after advertisements began circulating on social media offering TRNC citizenship specifically to women.
One such post read: “If there is a woman who wants to become a TRNC citizen, please contact me.”
This “tempting offer” quickly sparked widespread criticism and public concern online, prompting calls for an official response.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry emphasized:
"This is a highly sensitive issue that touches on public order and the legal procedures of our state."
The Ministry confirmed that a formal notice has been sent to the General Directorate of Police, instructing them to investigate the matter. Authorities have been directed to verify the legitimacy of these advertisements and determine whether any laws have been violated.
"The citizenship process is carried out exclusively by authorized institutions in accordance with current legislation. Any attempt to mislead the public or promote unofficial schemes will result in legal action," the Ministry added.
