An AI-based speed control system, TRAFİDAR, is being launched on the roads of Northern Cyprus

A new intelligent traffic control system, TRAFİDAR, created by the Turkish company RADARSAN using artificial intelligence technologies, is being implemented in Northern Cyprus. The project will cover key highways and urban areas where serious traffic accidents occur most frequently.
As part of the program, 150 radar devices have been installed across the TRNC, of which 130 are stationary and 20 are mobile. They are placed at 30 strategically important points of the road network. The system is entirely a domestic Turkish development and is implemented with the support of the Defense Industry Administration, allowing the abandonment of foreign technologies and licenses.
The main goal of the "Smart Transport" project is to reduce the number of fatal accidents, especially among young drivers aged 15 to 29. According to the developers, more than 50 people die annually on TRNC roads, and in most cases, speeding is the cause of these tragedies.
RADARSAN CEO Serhat Doğan emphasized that artificial intelligence allows for faster and more accurate detection of violations, but it does not replace driver responsibility. According to him, the technologies should work in parallel with fostering a culture of safe driving.
Special attention is paid to personal data protection. The company states that TRAFİDAR records only traffic violations and is not used for surveillance. The system is protected by modern security protocols and complies with privacy requirements.
Authorities expect that the launch of TRAFİDAR will not only increase road safety but also reduce government expenses by avoiding costly foreign solutions.
