On the Karpas Peninsula, six decomposed bodies washed ashore were buried
In Northern Cyprus, six bodies that were washed ashore by the sea were buried yesterday afternoon. The bodies were never identified, and authorities suspect they belonged to drowned Syrian refugees.
The burials took place at the cemetery in Dipkarpaz. The burial ceremony was attended by the village elder, the chief of the police station, a police sergeant, as well as some municipal employees from nearby municipalities.
Recall that all six bodies were found within the last month. The latest body was discovered this week on the beach in the Inchiler area on the northern coast of Dipkarpaz.
Previously, male and female bodies were found in January, also on beaches in Dipkarpaz, and another male body was found in the Bafra hotel area. Additionally, last week, two more lifeless bodies washed ashore from the sea were discovered on the coast in Chatalkoy within one day.
In all cases, identifying the bodies was not possible because none of them had any identification documents, and also due to their advanced decomposition.
Melisa Turkkala, a legal consultant at the Refugee Rights Association, believes that the deceased were likely Syrian refugees because the clothing they wore was manufactured in Syria.
