Restoration Projects Underway for Tuzla Mosque in Larnaca and St. George’s Church in Famagusta

The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage in Cyprus has launched restoration efforts for two historically and architecturally significant sites: the Tuzla Mosque in Larnaca and the Latin Church of St. George in Famagusta.

According to the Turkish Cypriot co-chair of the Technical Committee, these restorations are part of ongoing projects funded by the Geneva-based ALIPH Foundation, which focuses on the preservation of cultural heritage worldwide.

• "In addition to our many ongoing projects, we began two parallel restoration initiatives at the end of 2024, which will continue into the upcoming year. Thanks to funding from the ALIPH Foundation, we are working to preserve at least four layers of Cyprus’s rich history. Both the Tuzla Mosque and the Latin Church of St. George are remarkable examples of Gothic architecture and hold immense historical value."

It has previously been announced that a series of restoration projects on Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot cultural heritage sites are planned for 2025.

Currently, preparation work is underway for research and restoration efforts on 26 additional monuments across the island.
