At the beach in Karşıyaka, 35 refugees were caught: human traffickers are going to court
In Kyrenia, two human traffickers suspected of organizing an illegal migration channel to the TRNC appeared in court. Over the weekend, 35 refugees were caught on the beach in Karşıyaka.
During the court hearing, a police representative explained that on March 23rd, officers from the Lapta police station discovered a total of 35 refugees on the beach in Karşıyaka, Kyrenia (Karşıyaka Fener Mevkii), who were attempting to illegally enter the country. Among those detained were five children aged 2 to 9, four women, and 26 men aged 15 to 50.
All captured refugees will be housed at the Yıldız student dormitory for further investigation. The needs of refugee children will be addressed by social services personnel, as this falls within their jurisdiction.
The police also stated that individuals attempting to illegally transport illegal immigrants to the TRNC were apprehended in Turkey by Turkish Coast Guard teams. They were then handed over to the court in Kyrenia.
After evaluating the presented evidence, the court decided to detain the two suspects for one day for further investigation.
