An official from the land registry office was arrested in Northern Cyprus for handing documents to Greek Cypriots

This week in Northern Cyprus, an employee of the land registry office in Kyrenia was detained. He is accused of illegally transferring official documents to citizens of the Republic of Cyprus representing the Greek community.
The official is suspected of providing documents related to real estate ownership to at least five Greek Cypriots. These are believed to be certificates or extracts concerning plots or properties located in the northern part of the island.
After the arrest, the suspect was brought before the Famagusta court, which ordered that he be held in custody for three days. This measure aims to ensure proper investigation and prevent possible interference in the process.
It is not yet clear what exact documents were handed over and whether they related to property disputes—an issue sensitive between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. It has also not been disclosed whether the official acted independently or under someone else’s direction.
Local authorities continue the investigation. The incident has attracted public attention, as cases of transferring documents to Greek Cypriots in Northern Cyprus could be perceived as potential threats to the political status of Northern Cyprus and undermine internal order.
