In Northern Cyprus, an agreement was reached to seek a solution for teachers not appointed due to the election ban

The Cyprus Secondary Education Teachers Union (KTOEÖS) stated that, following a protest outside the Public Service Commission (Kamu Hizmeti Komisyonu) building and a subsequent meeting with its leadership, an agreement was reached to look for a solution for teachers who passed the competitive exams but were not appointed to positions due to election-period restrictions. According to the union, the Commission has published the staffing needs for schools.

In the KTOEÖS statement, it was clarified that this concerns teachers for general secondary and vocational-technical schools. As part of the agreement, today at 11:00 a meeting is planned between the Chair of the Commission, the union leadership, and the Chair of the Supreme Electoral Council to work out a practical solution.

What this means for TRNC residents: the publication of staffing needs paves the way for possible appointments and a reduction of staff shortages in schools, but final decisions depend on the outcome of the conciliation meeting and the regulatory requirements of the election period. KTOEÖS promised to continue fighting to ensure that public education does not become a hostage to political restrictions. The recommendation for unappointed teachers is to follow the official announcements of the Commission and the union.
