Northern Cyprus Marks the 110th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Victory
On March 18, Northern Cyprus commemorates the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli victory. The leaders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) issued a special message to honor this significant day.
In his address, TRNC President Ersin Tatar reminded the public that the Gallipoli victory was one of the most crucial turning points in the country’s history, marking the beginning of the Turkish Cypriots' fight for independence.
“The spirit of Gallipoli embodies our nation's faith and determination. It shows that we will never recognize obstacles and that we will achieve victory no matter the circumstances, united and in solidarity, for the sake of our independence. Our proud people declared to the world: 'Gallipoli is impassable,'” said the TRNC President in his message.
Ersin Tatar also pointed out that the Gallipoli victory “changed world history, gave hope and inspiration to oppressed and enslaved nations, and became a symbol of strength for the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for sovereignty, independence, existence, and freedom.”
“The Gallipoli victory, which shaped the future of the Turkish nation, was the spark that ignited the War of Independence under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and it laid the foundation for the establishment of the Republic of Turkey,” President Tatar added.
The Battle of Gallipoli, which took place on March 18, 1915, during World War I, was a pivotal moment in the history of the Turkish nation.
