October 29 Celebrations in Northern Cyprus: Events Held in Famagusta, Güzelyurt, and Lefke
On October 29, 2025, official events were held in Northern Cyprus to mark the 102nd anniversary of Republic Day.
In Famagusta, the first ceremony at the Victory Monument began with wreath-laying according to protocol, a moment of silence, and the performance of the “İstiklal” anthem, followed by flag-raising. After the procession, the second ceremony at Namık Kemal Square opened with a concert by the Security Forces Orchestra. Student Devrim Kılıç from the Famagusta Vocational School recited the poem “Republic.” The program included folk dance performances and a mini-concert. To conclude, in honor of the anniversary, the TCG Preveze submarine was visited at the Famagusta port.
In Güzelyurt, the ceremony at the Atatürk Monument began with wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and flag-raising, followed by official speeches and a march by the orchestra of the Turkish Cypriot Peacekeeping Forces Command, concluding with a concert at the municipality’s covered market.
In Lefke, celebrations started with a procession from the Lefke District Administration to the Atatürk Monument, where wreaths were laid, a moment of silence was observed, and the anthem was performed. The program continued with official speeches, poetry readings, and an orchestra concert.
