The Council of Ministers has approved a significant increase in tariffs for drinking water supplied to municipalities.

According to a decree effective June 15, 2025, the sale price of drinking water supplied from the Turkish Republic to municipalities is set at 18.28 Turkish lira per tonne (m³). This price will apply both to municipalities using water directly from Turkey and those that continue to use local resources.

Additionally, different rates will apply in areas not supplied with water from Turkey.

- In districts where local water resources are managed by municipalities, the cost per tonne is 7.00 Turkish lira,

- In sources operated by the department, the cost per tonne of water will be 17.00 lira.

Furthermore, fees for agricultural irrigation have increased. The price per m³ of agricultural water, whether from Turkey or local sources, has been set at 8.55 Turkish lira.

The tariff changes cover fees municipalities will pay to the state. However, the water rates that municipalities will charge citizens will also require state approval.

Therefore, this price increase is expected to be reflected in household bills in the upcoming period.
