Northern Cyprus declares Hungarian citizen a prohibited immigrant
Authorities in Northern Cyprus on 5 February 2026 declared Hungarian citizen Béla Dénes, 67, a prohibited immigrant, local law enforcement agencies reported.
According to the authorities, Dénes is wanted on charges of budget fraud brought by the Budapest Metropolitan Court. He is listed on national and international wanted lists, and information about him was received from the Turkish Ministry of the Interior.
The decision is based on the provisions of Article 6(1)(g) of the Aliens and Immigration Law, officials noted. The statement said that Dénes was deemed a potential threat to public order and state security.
According to the authorities’ assessment, he could provoke hostile actions against the state or attempt to undermine state authority, the statement said. The decision changes his legal status in accordance with the current migration legislation in Northern Cyprus.
For island residents, this means that persons recognized as security threats under the relevant law are subject to established procedural measures and restrictions aimed at protecting public order.
