In Northern Cyprus, a cormorant exhausted by a long flight was rescued.

Animal protectors in Northern Cyprus saved a young cormorant exhausted by a long flight. The migratory bird, a winter visitor to the island, was brought to the wildlife hospital this week.

According to the Tashkent Nature Park, the bird is believed to have suffered from migratory fatigue, which could have been triggered by bad weather conditions.

Park staff added that waterfowl like cormorants can face unusual challenges during migration and often accidentally swallow fishing hooks along with their prey. Fortunately, X-rays of the young bird revealed no internal injuries or swallowed fishing gear.

Since cormorants are highly sensitive to stress and complications related to captivity, their rehabilitation is challenging. Therefore, their quick return to the wild is crucial for successful recovery.

- This majestic young bird will be released back into the wild after receiving approval from the rehabilitation team, so it can continue its journey, - the statement says.
