Beach Cleanup Campaign Launched in Northern Cyprus
A beach cleanup campaign has begun in Northern Cyprus. This annual environmental event is organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment.
The beach cleanup activities in the TRNC traditionally take place during the summer months. The initiative aims to "ensure the cleanliness of beaches and raise environmental awareness among the public."
As part of the environmental campaign, five groups of activists conduct cleanups twice a day, in the morning and evening, at designated swimming areas in four regions: Famagusta, Iskele, Yeniboğaziçi, and Tatlısu.
In Famagusta, the eco-squads actively work on Palm Beach-Devran and Glapsides Beach. In Yeniboğaziçi, young volunteers tidy up the beach in the Salamis hotel area and the public beach area in Yeniboğaziçi. Cleanups also occur in Iskele and on public beaches in Tatlısu.
It is noted that despite the presence of garbage bins on the beaches, visitors leave behind a lot of litter, which is particularly noticeable during evening cleanups.
