The Republican Campus was ceremoniously opened in Northern Cyprus
The ceremonial opening of the Republican Campus in Northern Cyprus took place with the participation of President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar welcomed his Turkish counterpart, who arrived in Northern Cyprus specifically for this event.
Ceremonial Event
After the official welcome, the national anthem was played, and the President of Turkey paid respect to the honor guard. Before cutting the ribbon, both leaders delivered ceremonial speeches.
Ersin Tatar emphasized that the new campus holds great significance for TRNC and expressed his joy about the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his delegation.
“I would like to sincerely thank the Republic of Turkey for this significant contribution. This campus will stand here for centuries as a monument symbolizing our independence and freedom,” said Ersin Tatar.
He added that the Presidential Campus, the Republican Assembly, the Supreme Court building, and the National Park have become symbols of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
In his speech, Erdoğan also expressed his satisfaction with being in TRNC:
“Today we are placing another seal on these lands. We are bringing another magnificent work to the Turkish Cypriot people. This is not just an opening: we are declaring our will, our determination, and our love for freedom.”
The Campus and Its Significance
The campus, which began construction in 2022, covers an area of 639,475 square meters and includes:
- The Presidential Building,
- The Republican Assembly,
- The Supreme Court building,
- The National Park.
The President of Turkey stated that in the first phase, the Presidential Building and the Republican Assembly were opened, and in the future, the National Park, the National Mosque, and the Supreme Court buildings will be inaugurated.
“The Republic Campus is a symbol of the Turkish Cypriot people's determination and an expression of the state's will to exist in the face of injustice and lawlessness. It is also a reflection of the shared destiny of Turkey and TRNC,” said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
After the speeches, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting took place in front of the new Presidential Building, attended by the official protocol.
