Two detained at Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus for selling smuggled puppies
On September 24, 2025, around 23:00, at the Ercan Airport parking lot, officers from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate and the Customs and Excise Department conducted an operational check and detained two people during the sale of three poodle puppies.
According to the operation data, C.H. (K-39) illegally brought three poodle puppies into the TRNC and was caught red-handed while handing them over to N.G. (K-27).
Both detainees have been taken into custody. It is reported that an investigation is ongoing regarding the individuals involved.
For residents in Northern Cyprus, this means increased control at border crossings and airports regarding the import of animals. Law enforcement reminds everyone to comply with the rules for importing pets and to properly prepare the necessary documents when transporting animals across borders.
