Successful deep brain stimulation surgery performed in Northern Cyprus

On 14 November 2025, neurosurgeon Çağın Ozankaya announced that his team had successfully performed a deep brain stimulation surgery in Northern Cyprus. According to the doctor, this type of intervention is used to treat Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders when the correction of abnormal neuronal activity is required.
The procedure involves placing electrodes in specific areas of the brain, which significantly improves movement control and reduces symptoms. Ozankaya noted that such operations are becoming an important step in improving the quality of life for patients for whom medication alone no longer provides sufficient effect.
An extended multidisciplinary team took part in the operation: neurology and anesthesiology specialists, specialised nurses, anesthesia technicians, and technical services. The doctor emphasized the role of coordinated teamwork and described the moment when a patient regains their own “rhythm” after the procedure as one of the most meaningful in his practice.
Ozankaya also added that technological advancements in the field of deep brain stimulation continue, and professional knowledge exchange within the medical community enhances treatment outcomes and expands therapeutic possibilities.
