In Northern Cyprus, police worked 24/7 on New Year’s Eve — 7 people detained
The police of Northern Cyprus reported that during the New Year celebrations reinforced patrols were on duty around the clock across the country — a total of 604 officers. The authorities noted that overall the night passed calmly, and public order and road safety checks continued without interruption.
As a result of the operations, 7 people were detained: four for disturbing public order while intoxicated, two for residing without legal status, and one on suspicion of possessing a small quantity of a narcotic substance.
Separately, police reported an incident in Mormenekşe: in a children’s park, a plastic bottle with an unknown chemical substance allegedly exploded — a man passing nearby sustained facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

On the roads, 860 drivers were checked over the day, with legal proceedings initiated in 47 cases. The most frequent violations were speeding (22 cases) and driving under the influence (4 cases); other violations included using a mobile phone while driving and driving without documents. In addition, 4 drivers were detained after traffic accidents committed while intoxicated.
