Five-day artillery exercises to take place in Mevlevi area of Northern Cyprus
The Northern Cyprus Security Forces Command announced that from 20 to 24 October 2025, artillery exercises with live fire will be conducted in the village of Mevlevi (Güzelyurt district). Maneuvers will take place daily from 07:00 to 21:00 and will involve mortars and other types of fire weapons.
During the exercises, the military will practice combat coordination, unit interaction, and engineer group actions to neutralize unexploded ordnance. After each firing phase, the area will be checked and cleared of training shells.
Residents and farmers are strictly prohibited from approaching the designated danger zone. The ban is in effect until an official announcement confirms the end of training. The dangerous area covers locations south of the village of Yuvacık, east of Kalkanlı, south of Soğan Tepe hill, and stretches to the Kalkanlı–Gürkan Burnu line.
Military authorities warned that violating the restriction may pose a threat to life and property, as unexploded ordnance may remain in the area. Citizens are advised to adjust travel routes in advance and refrain from hunting, grazing animals, and performing agricultural work in the specified areas.
The exercises are part of a planned combat training program aimed at enhancing the safety and combat readiness of the armed forces units.
